After a funeral
If a "Will" has been left, the nominated "Executor" of the estate is charged with this responsibility.  He/She can carry out these duties either by themselves or with the help of a Solicitor or Trustee Company.  If you have any queries it can be a good idea to have your first conversation with your family member's bank manager, they can set you off on the right track.

A "Certified Copy of Death Entry" (Death Certificate) is required as proof of death.  Most companies will accept a copy of this document as evidence of death, but if there is an overseas pension involved you will need to order two original Death Certificates.  Prosser Scott will arrange this from the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages within 10 days of the Funeral Service.

If there is no "Will" then, the next-of-kin will have to apply, through the Probate Office, for "Letters of Administration".  This then gives them the authority to administer the estate.  Here again professional help may be advisable.  There is also a lot of information on the Internet.  Just feed in "Closing down an Estate" and "search" and you will find numerous sites with relevant information.

Generally speaking, a Trustee Company will levy their charges on a percentage basis and a Solicitor on the time/work involved.

Our arrangers are available 7 days a week to meet with you at your home or at our offices and you can contact us by phone 24 hours a day.
